Standard Evaluation Questions 2000 - 2003

All four types of evaluations available, unit, teaching, honours course, and postgraduate course (coursework) have a set of “standard” questions. These questions were pre-printed on the questionnaires for the 2000- 2003 period. These ‘standard’ questions allow for comparability of data across time and in the case of unit questionnaires across units.

Unit

  • The unit has fulfilled the objectives stated in the Outline

  • The assessment requirements were clearly spelled out

  • The unit was well taught

  • The workload was not too heavy for this course

  • There was reasonable opportunity for individual consultation with teaching staff

  • Feedback on submitted work was helpful

  • Teaching staff treated students with respect

  • The unit stimulated my interest in the subject

  • I gained a good understanding of the content

Teaching

  • The lecturer seemed well organised

  • The lecturer presented material in an interesting way

  • The lecturer gave adequate feedback on my work

  • The lecturer treated students with respect

  • The lecturer seemed to know the subject well

  • The lecturer communicated enthusiasm for the subject

  • The lecturer emphasised thinking rather than just memorising

  • The lecturer’s explanations were clear

  • The lecturer was available for consultation

  • The lecturer helped me to improve my learning skills

Honours

Section B – Administration and Resources

  • Course objectives were clearly stated

  • Assessment requirements were clearly spelled out

  • Access to necessary library resources was adequate

  • Access to computers was adequate

  • Accommodation provided for Honours students was reasonable

Section C – Study and Supervision

  • The responsibilities of staff and students were explained well

  • Feedback on submitted work was prompt and helpful

  • The course helped develop independent research skills

  • Supervision assistance with the project was helpful

Section D - Coursework

  • The coursework was relevant to the overall Honours course

  • The coursework load was manageable

  • The coursework was well taught

  • Teaching staff were readily available for consultation

  • Postgraduate (coursework)

  • The course fulfilled the objectives stated in the Handbook

  • The coursework load was manageable
