Backhouse Walker Honours Scholarship in History

This scholarship commemorates James Backhouse and George Washington Walker, Quaker missionaries to Van Diemen’s Land, and James Backhouse Walker, Tasmanian lawyer, scientist and historian, and vice-chancellor of the University of Tasmania.

Eligibility

Available to a student undertaking an honours project on the history of the Quakers, the life and times of James Backhouse Walker, or other related topic, and making use of the resources of the University of Tasmania Library’s Special Collections. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the applicant's academic record in history and the quality of application. The offer will be conditional upon the recipient enrolling in History Honours in 2010 and establishing a viable project.
