Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (CECS)

Funding for these awards is provided by the Federal Government and seeks to help low-income indigenous students with the costs associated with higher education. Two types of award are available - Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) and Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS).

Eligibility

As announced in the Federal Budget in May 2009, from 2010 applications for Commonwealth Scholarships will only be open to students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who can demonstrate financial need. Recipients should be enrolled full-time (minimum 37.5% load per semester). To be eligible for a Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship applicants must have recently lived in, or have been educated in, rural or regional Australia, and have to move away from home to access on-campus study. Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships do not have this relocation criteria.

$2,254 pa (paid in two equal instalments each year, after census date).
