How do I vary my enrolment?
Any changes to your enrolment , including complete withdrawals, must be made by the relevant unit census date and must be in writing addressed to the Student Centre. Variations are to be completed on the Enrolment Statement provided to you (you can obtain a copy of your latest notice in our Enrolment Notices section). Any written correspondence should clearly identify your student number, full details of units/courses you wish to amend and be signed and dated. You can add and withdraw from units on the same form.

What is the final date for a variation to my enrolment?
The final date for any variations (either additions or withdrawals) is the unit census date for each unit you are enrolled in. Your enrolment must be finalised by the census date to ensure you do not receive any financial or academic penalty. Please check your enrolment online prior to the census dates. We recommend you seek course advice when considering changes to your enrolment.
What if I am not attending classes?
Non-attendance at classes is not an indication of withdrawal of enrolment. You must advise the Student Centre in writing before the unit census date.
I want to add a unit to my enrolment. What do I do?
All unit additions to your enrolment require the written approval of the dean (or nominee) of the faculty responsible for the course and the head of school (or nominee) responsible for teaching the unit. Complete your Statement of Enrolment form and take it to the relevant members of staff for approval, before bringing or posting it to the Student Centre for processing. Relevant unit codes, unit titles and course codes must be included.
How do I change my course?
You cannot change a course without approval from the Faculty you wish to change to so you need to speak to the School and Faculty Officer. The Faculty Officer will advise you on the correct process. You can also apply for admission for the new course.
How do I withdraw from a unit?
You are encouraged to seek advice from the School, Faculty or a Course Coordinator before withdrawing. To proceed with your withdrawal, complete a variation on an enrolment statement form and forward it to the Student Centre for processing.
How do I withdraw from a course?
You are encouraged to seek advice from the School, Faculty or a Course Coordinator before withdrawing. If you wish to totally withdraw from your course and not continue with any study at the University of Tasmania draw a diagonal line across all the units and write total withdrawal on your Enrolment Statement and forward it to the Student Centre for processing.
How do I know my enrolment variation has been processed?
You will receive an updated Enrolment Statement within 14 days of submitting a variation of enrolment or you can check your enrolment on-line (click the Faculty Record link). If your fees or Student Contribution charges are affected by your change of enrolment you will also receive a new Fees Invoice/Statement. It is essential that you check each new statement thoroughly to ensure that the changes you made have been recorded correctly.
What happens if I withdraw after the census date?
If you withdraw after the applicable unit census date there may be academic penalties depending on the date you submit a withdrawal. All withdrawals after the census date will incur financial liability.
Academic and Financial Penalty Dates
You have two options when withdrawing after census date.
Option 1:
You are able to withdraw without academic penalty by submitting an enrolment variation prior to the academic penalty dates. You will incur financial liability.
OR
Option 2:
If you are able to demonstrate special circumstances for withdrawal after the census date or the academic penalty date you may be eligible to withdraw without academic or financial penalty. You need to complete an Application for Withdrawal without Academic Penalty (Remission Form) and submit both the application and supporting evidence to your Faculty Officer. For full details on withdrawal without academic penalty please refer to the Remission Guidelines.
