Academic Progress Review (APR) is a formal process to assess students academic progress and identify students who are failing part or all of their course. Each Faculty and Institute will review the academic progress of students after the release of results, usually at the end of semester 1 and semester 2, and identify students who have made, or are at risk, of unsatisfactory progress.
Student progress is deemed unsatisfactory if the student has:
- failed 50% of their enrolment (including Absent deemed failed, Not eligible and Withdrawn deemed failed results),
- failed a unit for a second time, or
- failed to meet a core requirement of their course as set out in the course specifications.
The Faculty or Institute may decide that a student may be:
- excluded from further enrolment in the their course for a period of 12 months from the date of exclusion; or
- placed on probation for their course with or without restrictions or conditions
If you have been excluded or placed on probation you will be contacted.
Academic progress review is done when the results have been finalised but before they are released to students. If the Faculty or Institute does not have all final results they may review a student’s progress after the deferred and supplementary exam period.
This will usually happen if a student has:
- a deferred examination,
- been granted a supplementary examination, or
- a withheld result for some reason,
Academic progress is governed by the following:
- Rule 2 Academic Assessment (Rule 2 clause 25)
- Rule 3 Admissions and Student Progress
- National Code of Practice
