If you have been placed on probation for your course due to unsatisfactory progress you will be notified by email that your letter is in your eStudentCentre account.

Check to see if your letter has arrived in eStudentCentre under Enrolment > Documents.

A comment will be placed on your faculty record stating that you have been placed on probation and will remain as part of your permanent record. However the comment will not appear on an academic transcript.

If you have been placed on probation as part of an offer of a place at the university, then a message will appear on your letter of offer.

Being placed on probation means you remain enrolled in your course but the Faculty or Institute feels you may be at risk of unsuccessful progress in your course. Your academic progress will be monitored and/or restricted. The usual period of probation is 12 months. If your progress continues to be unsatisfactory, your probation may be continued or you may be excluded.

Appealing against probation

If you believe you have good academic reasons for appealing the decision to place you on probation, you may lodge an appeal against your probation by submitting a written statement explaining the reasons which have contributed to your unsatisfactory academic performance.

Your appeal must be received within twenty (20) working days of the date of your exclusion letter and should be addressed to:

Your appeal request will be acknowledged and your request will be considered by the faculty academic progress review committee.

All appeals will be dealt with confidentially so you should present your case in full, attaching all relevant documents. You may present your appeal before the committee (if you wish). You will be notified in writing of the outcome of your appeal.
