Overview
Your enrolment and all administrative details must be finalised by the census date that has been set for each unit. Details regarding the census dates for individual units are available on the Course & Unit Handbook.
If you are a Commonwealth Supported student and have not met all Higher Education Support Act requirements by the relevant unit census date your enrolment will be cancelled. You must provide:
If you choose the up-front payment option and do not provide your TFN you must pay the required amount by the fees due date or your enrolment will be cancelled. As a safety net it is advisable to provide your Tax File Number then your fees may be deferred it you do not meet the due date.
If you are supposed to pay a tuition fee for your unit and you have not paid by the relevant census date, your enrolment will be cancelled.
If you are enrolled in a unit at the census date you will be liable for the fees and charges for that unit for the relevant semester, even if you intended to withdraw from the unit. It is not sufficient to advise the lecturer that you will no longer be attending classes; notification of withdrawal must be in writing addressed to Student Centre and must be submitted prior to the census date.
You can use your Enrolment Notice to make any changes to your enrolment (addition and withdrawal of units), copies of which are available online in our Enrolment & Fees Notices section. Please select the most current notice to ensure accuracy. If you need assistance varying your enrolment, please contact your Faculty, School or course advisor.
Please refer to the Course & Unit Handbook for withdrawal dates, as well as dates that apply for academic and financial penalty dates and associated withdrawal dates.

- Semester 1 2008 - 20 March 2008
- Semester 2 2008 - 7 August 2008
Winter School

Calculating the census date for Summer, Winter and Spring Schools
Census dates are to be no earlier than 20% of the way through the period of time during which the unit is undertaken [HESA –s169-25(2)]. The period of time during which the unit of study is undertaken must include any normal study breaks, assessment or exam periods (except supplementary examinations as these are not normally undertaken by all students in the unit of study).
Where a provider does not know the date for the final exam for a unit, the last day of the exam period is to be used as the end of the study period. Where a unit does not include a final exam, the final exam period does not need to be included.
The application of the 20% rule will be applied to the closest business day.
The exception to this rule is where the census date falls after the end date of the unit for units undertaken in the summer, winter or spring semesters. In these cases each unit will be calculated on an individual basis and the census date will be set accordingly.
