This course was the first named medical research degree in Australia. Medical research is a rapidly growing field of scientific endeavour centred on the biological underpinning of human health and disease, with a focus on providing new procedures and therapeutic agents to improve human health. This course provides students with an understanding of the structure and function of healthy human cells, tissues, organs and systems, as well as of the abnormal genetic, cellular and systemic changes that characterise human diseases and conditions. Students are able to select options that prepare them for careers or further studies in fields such as:
- oncology
- epidemiology
- neuroscience
- pharmacology
- other areas of medial research and medical science
