Admission to many courses is available on the basis of a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. You may apply for admission to the University on the basis of meeting one or more of the following General Entry Requirements.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme is a two year pre-tertiary course. Based in Switzerland, the IB Diploma programme was established in 1968 and now over 3025 schools in 139 countries participate in the Diploma programme with approximately 848,000 students being assessed annually.
The University of Tasmania welcomes applications for admission from students who have been awarded the Diploma. Applicants with incomplete Diplomas (Certificate students) will be considered for concessional entry and should therefore not be deterred from applying.
How is an IB score compared to the Tasmanian Tertiary Entrance Score and Interstate Comparisons?
Courses at the University may be subject to quota selection, as some courses have a limited number of places and high numbers of applications.
IB applicants will be ranked according to their IB score on the following scale.

Note: For tertiary entrance purposes in all Australian States and Territories (except South Australia and the Northern Territory), this Combined Rank measure of overall achievement is comparable with the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR). This means that a Combined Rank of 91.10 equals an ATAR of 91.10.
NSW, ACT, QLD, TAS, VIC and WA have agreed on a common ‘score’ for students who complete Year 12. The Combined Rank is a national scale based on population statistics and retention rates provided by the Australian Government. It is a measure of the performance of students relative to other students who have attempted Year 12 in their State in the same year, but with an adjustment made in recognition that different proportions of students choose to enrol in Year 12 in each of the States and Territories.
The following document has been prepared by the Australasian Conference of Teritiary Admissions Centres (ACTAC) to explain the procedures used by tertiary admission centres to determine tertiary entrance rankings for International Baccalaureate students.

IB Examination Results
The University of Tasmania wishes to advise that the (relatively) late release of IB results in early January does not disadvantage IB applicants.
According to the International Baccalaureate Organization Handbook of Procedures ‘A university, college or admissions centre (or college) may require evidence of a candidate’s results directly from the IB. On request, the results for a candidate will be sent directly to the institution in electronic or paper format (a transcript of grades).’ Requests for this service must be submitted using form B2 by your IB Coordinator on IBIS according to the deadlines [Latest arrival date 15 October].
The University of Tasmania has its own admissions centre, therefore students will need to complete a request for this individual university.
