APPLYING
Where can I get help with choosing a course? |
Choosing the right course can seem daunting however there are lots of places where you can get help and advice. The Future Student section of our website is a good place to begin and it includes suggestions and contacts. |

How do I apply to UTAS? |
If you are a domestic applicant (you are an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident (including Humanitarian Visa holder), visit www.utas.edu.au/apply, and then the link to eApplications. Click the Access Apply-By-Web button and then the link to Login. Next, take the link to Set up a New Account to create a username and password. Once that is done you will be able to commence your application. If you need assistance, please phone 1300 361 928.
If you are an international applicant, visit the International Services website at www.international.utas.edu.au
If you are a graduate research applicant, visit the Graduate Research Office website at www.research.utas.edu.au.
If you are a scholarship applicant, visit the Scholarships & Bursaries website at www.studentcentre.utas.edu.au/scholarships. |
I have completed my education overseas. Will my qualifications be recognised? |
Your overseas qualifications will be assessed using the guidelines provided by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR). Unfortunately UTAS is unable to comment on your eligibility before an application is received. |
Do I need to provide a supporting statement with my application? |
You may be required to provide a supporting statement with your application if you do not meet the University’s General Entry Requirements (http://www.studentcentre.utas.edu.au/admissions/requirements.html) through prior academic study. Most postgraduate applicants will be required to complete a supporting statement and all applicants are expected to write their own supporting statement. Please check the guidelines on completing a Supporting Statement at http://www.studentcentre.utas.edu.au/admissions/requirements.html We may also contact you if further clarification or additional information is required. |
Where do I send my supporting documents? |

Can I upload my supporting documents with my application? |
You cannot upload a document, however you may complete this as part of your application or submit it separately via email to student.centre@utas.edu.au, or by post to Admissions Office University of Tasmania Private Bag 45 HOBART TAS 7001 |
I already sent copies of my transcripts/results/qualifications when I applied before, do I need to send further copies of the same? |
Documents provided by applicants are kept by the Admissions Office for 18 months only, in accordance with the state Archives Act.
If you provided the documents for a 2009 application, email admissions@utas.edu.au, and we will attach the documents to your new application. You will however need to provide documents for any relevant qualifications you have obtained since then.
If you provided the documents for a 2010 application, the documents will already be attached to your application. |
Which documents exactly do you need? |
You may receive a request to supply documentation to support your application. This may be a request for evidence of Citizenship, Academic Transcripts, a Supporting Statement or name change. All documents must be either originals or copies of originals certified by a Commissioner of Declarations, a Justice of the Peace, a university or college Registrar or other recognised examining authority. Your original documents will not be returned unless you enclose a stamped self addressed envelope, or alternatively you can bring the original into the Student Centre where a copy will be made and authorised. Please clearly mark your name on each page. |

I haven’t finished my current studies so how can I send in my transcripts? |
If you study at UTAS or another Australian university we will, in most cases, obtain your record electronically. If we cannot obtain your record electronically we will contact you requesting a certified copy.
If you are studying elsewhere, we will contact you if we require additional information. |
PREFERENCES
How many courses can I choose? |
Undergraduate applicants can choose up to four courses, listed in the order of preference you wish to apply for them, with 1 being the most preferred course. Postgraduate applicants can list up to three course preferences. |

Are all preferences given equal consideration? |
Undergraduate applicants will have their first preference assessed, and if unsuccessful, subsequent preferences will be assessed until an offer of a place is made. In cases where applicants do not receive (or are unlikely to receive) an offer in a course of their choice, the University will endeavour to provide alternative course options or pathways.
Postgraduate applicants will have all preferences assessed. |

How can I change my preferences? |
If you applied by web you can return to your application and choose Change of Preference from the Menu. (Go to www.utas.edu.au/apply and then take the link to Change of Preference)
If you applied by paper, email student.centre@utas.edu.au, using the email address used in your original application, and request that your preferences be changed.
Alternatively, you can post a letter requesting the change to:

CREDIT
Can I get credit towards the course I’ve applied for as I have already undertaken study at university? |
You can request credit for units or subjects you have already studied and passed at UTAS or other educational institution. To do this you will need to complete a Credit form and return it to the student centre. You will find the Credit form and further details regarding applications for Credit on our website.
Please note, credit applications are assessed by Faculty after an offer is made. |

OFFERS
How is my application going? |
We cannot give an exact date when your application with be completed, however the outstanding applications are assessed continually, and offers are released on a weekly basis on Friday at 3pm. If you applied by web, you can check for offers by returning to your on-line application after the offers have been released. |
I have tried to log onto the eApplications website but it did not accept the username and password I use for the eStudent Centre. What can I do? |
Your UTAS login username and password are completely different to the username and password you create to submit your on-line application. Even if you have previously been enrolled at UTAS, you will need to set up a new username and password for use in the eApplications process. These login details will allow you to check for offers and to accept offers online. |
How do I check for an offer? |
If you have been made an offer, it will be available within your on-line application after 3pm on Fridays, and will also be posted to the address you provided in your application.
To access your letter of offer, please return to your on-line application after 3pm on Friday. (Go to www.utas.edu.au/apply, and then take the link to Check for an Offer.) |

What if I will be Overseas/Away when my offer is made?
|
If you will be absent from your normal address, you can change your address or arrange for someone to act on your behalf by sending us written authority for them to do so. Give a copy to the person you have nominated so they can present it if they need to respond to an offer on your behalf.
If you applied online, you will be able to view your offer online, and accept your offer online. |

DEFERRALS
Can I defer my place on the course I have been offered? |
A deferral is for new students who have received an offer of a place but have not commenced studying their degree and wish to defer starting their course for one academic year. Deferrals will only be granted to students who meet one of the following criteria:
- a Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) of at least 75; or
- a completed International Baccalaureate Diploma with a score of at least 26; or
- a University Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.
Deferrals are not available in all courses and are strictly limited in some others. You should complete the Application for Deferral of Offer form, giving details of why you would like to defer. What if I don’t meet the entry requirements for the course I applied for? |
What if my results aren't good enough to get me into my preferred course? |
What if I didn’t study the relevant subjects for a TER, do I still have an opportunity of going to university? |
For applicants who do not meet entry requirements, we may be able to offer a pathway to Bachelor level study via an Associate Degree. For Pathways advice, please contact the Admissions Pathways Officer in Hobart on (03) 6226 1985 and in Launceston on (03) 6324 3525 . ACCEPTANCE
How do I accept an offer? |
If you applied on-line, you accept your offer on-line by returning to the application you submitted to us via eApplications and selecting the Accept Now button. Please go to www.utas.edu.au/apply, to access your letter of offer.
If you did not apply to us via the on-line application system, please return the paper Acceptance Form which you received by post.
At the same time that you accept your offer, you can register to attend our free of charge Unistart program, and book in to attend a Ready for Uni workshop. New students are encouraged to attend a Ready for Uni workshop. These sessions are designed to assist you with understanding your offer, and the steps you need to follow in managing your enrolment.
It is highly recommended that you undertake Unistart, which is designed to give you the skills to succeed. |

I have accepted my offer but how do I access the eStudent Centre? |
Once you accept the offer, you will receive (by post and email) your UTAS login details. Your UTAS login username and password are completely different to the username and password you created to submit your on-line application. Your UTAS login details will give you access to all the UTAS on-line support and services, and will enable you to enrol in the Units (subjects) you plan to study. Enrolment is done on-line at the UTAS eStudent Centre. |
I have forgotten my Username and Password to log into my on-line application. What can I do? |
Start at www.utas.edu.au/apply, and click on eApplications, then Access Apply-By-Web , and then the link to Login. Next, take the link to Forgotten your Password and your password will be emailed to the address you supplied. |
