What is the difference between a Leave of Absence (LOA) and a Deferral?
LOA refers to currently enrolled students who wish to take an academic year off from their studies. Approval is not always guaranteed and some students may need to reapply for admission when they decide to return to studies. Current students must complete a Leave of Absence form and submit that form and supporting information to your Faculty Officer for approval.
A deferral is for new students who have received an offer of a place but have not commenced studying their degree and wish to defer starting their course for one academic year. New students must complete an Application for Deferral and submit that form to the Admissions Office, via the Student Centre.
What is credit and how do I apply for credit?
An Application for Credit is an application to count a unit or subject passed at another tertiary institution, or passed in a different course at this University, towards the course for which you are now applying. For example, you may have passed some units towards a Bachelor of Arts (BA) at another university and are now applying to study a BA in Hobart. If you apply for credit you may be granted an exemption from equivalent units in the BA course at this University. You should note, however, that there are time restrictions on the age of prior study for which Faculties will award credit.
You can apply for credit as part of your application for admission or complete an Application for Credit form and forward it to your Faculty for approval with relevant documentation.
